Jun and Roela Rivera visited with the staff of the United Methodist Church Foundation recently to share part of the proceeds from Roela’s new book on her experiences as a Filipino United Methodist and her near death experience. She graciously shared her story with us, and it is wonderful that they are willing to share this generous gift with the Church. It relates her story of meeting relatives in Heaven but knowing it was not her time to go just yet. We are so thankful for their shared ministry and gifts to the United Methodist Church Foundation for the Paglago Vitality Building Fund. It will be used to further the ministry of NAFAUM, and The United Methodist Church.
Foundation's Executive Director in London for World Methodist Council meeting.
“Achieving the Vision” is an endowment campaign with a goal of $20 million for the World Methodist Council. Almost $5 million has been received from member communions, churches and donors. At the World Methodist Conference in Durban, South Africa in August 2011 I was elected to chair the Achieving the Vision Committee. Its responsibility is the oversight of the investment of the funds received. During the last year, the fund has exceeded its benchmark by 2%. I have assembled a committee for this oversight with members from the AME, Methodist Church of Southern Africa and the UMC. The committee has worked diligently over the last year and a half to write and update new investment and spending policies.
The big outcome of the London meeting of the World Methodist Council was the approval of those policies. Inasmuch as the WMC has no current development staff, the ATV committee will also now devote some attention to the further development of the ATV fund, including a commitment approved at the Durban World Methodist Conference for each member communion to support the ATV endowment in an amount equal to 50¢ per member by 2016."
